Staying safe in chat

Most people on a chat site are there for the same reason you are. A few are not, and they tend to work in predictable ways, so a short list of habits covers most of it.

Do not hand over the things that identify you

Never give a stranger your phone number, email address, home location, workplace, or school.
Never send photos with identifying details in them, like a picture of you standing in front of your house.
Assume anything you send can be saved forever, because it can.

Money is the tell

Report anyone who asks you for personal information, bank details, gift cards, or cryptocurrency. Site staff will never ask you for any of those, for any reason.

Staff accounts carry a badge. If someone contacts you claiming to work here, look for the badge before you reply or trust a word of it.

Moving to another app

Mentioning another app or site is not against the rules, and plenty of ordinary conversations end up somewhere else. It is also a standard move for scammers, because the other platform has none of the protections this one does. Move only when you actually trust the person.

Arguing is not moderating

Block first and report second. Arguing with someone who is being deliberately unpleasant is what they were hoping for.
